Adobe has updated its beginner-friendly Photoshop Elements and Premiere editing software. Elements 15 adds touchscreen editing, batch adjustments, enhanced search function and a tool to edit facial features. New Smart Tags help identify key features in images and are applied automatically – search for 'dog' or 'birthday' and Adobe claims its enhanced search will identify these photos in your collection. Borrowing from Photoshop CC's face-aware liquify technology, Elements also gets a tool to help turn frowns into smiles and fix squinting eyes. Quick Edit and Organizer modes gain touch compatibility, and it's now possible to apply 'instant fix' edits to a batch of photos. Premiere Elements 15, Adobe's entry-level video editing software, offers the de-haze tool already offered by Photoshop CC and Elements and also gains touch functionality. A few other feature updates are also included, like the ability to create photo/video collages and a Remix feature to help match music and video clip length.

Visit to learn more about Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 15. Elements 12 was perfectly adequate for me until my first raw shots from a new Canon EOS 5D Mk iv were downloaded for editing. To my surprise raw 8.5 could not open the image files. Research determined that v9.7 was needed and this was found on Elements 15.

This was purchased via download from Adobe (with difficulty) only to find it required an update to get v9.7. While editing in 12 and 15 is much the same, using both expert and guided edit mode features on the one image is made clumsy and time consuming by the interface for guided edit. Also resolution of 300 dpi changes to 118ish dpcm (same but annoying). Can this be prevented? I have used PSE since version 5. At first, I would upgrade each time a newer version hit the market.

Then, I realized each update added next to nothing in features to justify the upgrade. So, I began updating with every other new version. Something I frequently recommend to others (actually, I could probably wait for two new versions to appear before updating). Version 15 is no exception. I have version 14; and find no real value in going to 15. So, PSE, I'll wait for version 16 before I waste money on something that offers very little. Hopefully version 16 will offer enough to make me buy again.

My two cents worth. I tried to get comfortable with Elements but gave up around v9.for me to move to this I'd need some real tools as opposed to a barrage of rather useless auto gimmicks that have been the focus to date.like what?.some simple sliders for things like clarity for example.yes it can be mimicked with a convoluted 6 step layers process as can many things in PSE. But LR for RAW and Corel PS Pro for JPEG is far more painless.I'll download a trial though and hope to be pleasantly suprised. @HowaboutRAW wote, 'You read like you don't know what PhotoShop CS6 is.' You write like you don't know what this post is not about (PhotoShop CS6) and, more to the point perhaps, like someone who just wants to start something. There's a name for that, one that's not assigned as a compliment. Since you do like CS6 and don't like PSE, including a new version I'm sure you've neither tried nor seen a review of, why bother to comment beyond a simple, 'Not for me; I find it too slow'?

Then again, if you just want to start something, I suppose it's no bother to go on about it, criticizing others' thoughts and comments along the way. The better, perhaps, to start something. SW: And I'm comparing the performance (speed) of PS CS6 to PSE 14. Adobe has a speed problem with PSE, PSE 9 is also incredibly slow on my Windows 7 machine, while PS CS6 is not--yes I've also tried PSE 14 on my Windows computer. I can't speak to the speed of PSE 15 yet, that's why I asked about it.

Though with a tiny bit for forethought, I can run the trialware of PSE 15 and see if the speed issue has been fixed. Mailman88 appears to be unfamiliar with what PS CS6 is. Le Petit Robert 2009 Iso Burner here. (Or perhaps PSE is much faster on Macs.) I asked my question, not one of the 'responses' has answered it. As I said, there's trialware for PSE 15 which I can try--and probably will.
