Essentials is made up of multiple components, you must place each jar that you intend to use in your Minecraft/Bukkit plugins folder. You will generally not need/want.

Future Update: While Sponge is still looking to be the best contender for the next iteration of Minecraft server hosting, I've been thus far unable to put together a team with the commitment and time to rewrite Essentials for Sponge. In the meantime a number of projects have come out for Sponge with the goal of filling the gap left by Essentials, meaning it isn't as important to port Essentials to Sponge. While the project is not dead yet, and I still hope for a possible resurrection, I wish the best of luck to the new 'Essentials' projects. Future Plans: After looking through the alternatives, I'm convinced the best way forward for the Minecraft server community is to embrace Sponge. While I don't have the time to work on the project myself, I'm hoping to be able to put together a team to work on Essentials for Sponge, when Sponge comes closer to being feature complete. This won't be for some time, as Sponge has got a lot of work to catch up on, to get back to the same coverage as Bukkit, but ultimately, due to native mod support, I think we will be much better off than we were on the Bukkit platform. New commands: /mail sendall [message]- sends mail to all players.
/itemdb [item]- looks up an item. /break- removes the block you are looking. /feed- fills your hunger bar.

/more- fills the stack in your hand. /remove- removes entities in a selected radius.
New stuff: [enchant] signs. Permissions for individual worlds with /world. Permissions for the new commands. More MOTD options. Cool Changes: players can now be sent to spawn with a command. Lots of bugfixes.
/back now supports other spawn plugins. Coming soon: extended functionality to the [time] sign. Still waiting for a recommended build from bukkit.

All 3 parameters are required and need to be in this order. For multiple potion effects repeat the series (see below for exmaples).
Potion Meta Effect speed slowness haste fatigue strength heal harm jump nausea regeneration resistance fireresist waterbreath invisibility blindness nightvision hunger weakness poison wither healthboost absorption saturation Effect Any number of different potion effects can be simultaneously active on a player, even in the case of opposite potion effects such as Strength and Weakness. It is not possible to apply the same potion effect multiple times, however, even if the effects are of different levels (e.g. Strength and Strength II cannot both be active at the same time). In the event of using a potion that applies an effect already active on the player, the new version of the effect overwrites the old effect, giving a new level and full duration if the new effect is of equal or greater level. An attempt to use a potion that applies a weaker version of an already-active effect consumes the potion but does not apply the new effect. Effect: effect:speed Power The power or level for the potion effect.
